Maureen Starkey, born Mary Cox on August 4, 1946, was best known as the first wife of Ringo Starr, the drummer for The Beatles. The two were married on February 11, 1965, and Maureen became closely associated with the famous band during the height of their popularity.
Maureen was originally a hairdresser from Liverpool, and she met Ringo Starr at the Cavern Club, where The Beatles played frequently in their early years. The couple had three children together: Zak, Jason, and Lee. Zak Starkey went on to become a professional drummer himself, performing with bands such as The Who and Oasis.
Throughout her marriage to Ringo and her association with The Beatles, Maureen maintained a relatively private life despite the intense media attention surrounding the band. After her divorce from Ringo in 1975, Maureen largely stayed out of the public eye.
She later married Isaac Tigrett, co-founder of the Hard Rock Café chain, and had a daughter, Augusta. Maureen Starkey passed away on December 30, 1994, at the age of 48, after a battle with leukemia. Her legacy remains tied to the legacy of The Beatles and the cultural impact they had on the world.
